stationery
Almost all clients who need new company logo also order business stationary design. Usually stationery design package includes business cards, letterheads and envelopes design. All three pieces of the package should have consistent design and look good together.
work process:
I always start work of the stationery design by designing layout for the business card. After business card layout is approved, the same layout idea get transfered on letterhead and envelope layouts.
advice to clients:
Business card is the most important stationery piece - it has all your contact information and often it's the first representation of your company image and the only way your potential clients can contact you. So business card should be very easy to read – that's the main purpose of the card. So while you may want to have very unique business card with awesome design, please remember that people should be able to read text on your business card! So I don't recommend very fancy hard to read fonts or very small font sizes. Nobody will call or email you if they can't read text on your business card!
I also recommend to use standard size business cards. Irregular shapes and sizes may not fit into wallet or card holder and your card will be thrown away fast. If your card is smaller then standard size, it may be lost among bigger standard size cards.
There are also few requirements to keep in mind for business cards printing. Cutting equipment has margin of error so you can't place any important information too close to business card edge or it might get cut. I also don't recommend thin borders around business card edge.
For letterhead design it's important to remember that main purpose of letterhead is content of the document, and design shouldn't interfere with content.
For envelope design it's important to keep USPS requirements in mind - there are areas on the envelope that should be left blank for bar code, postage and address.
