product labels
Product label design involves work with illustrations or photo images or both. Adobe Illustrator is a perfect tool for the project. Main task is to collect all elements of the label – product name, ingredients, legal statement, product description, manufacturer name and info, and than place it in layout.
work process:
After collecting label content I create several different layouts of the label. I always request client to provide me with samples of the graphics he/she likes. It doesn't have to be a sample of the product label, any piece of the marketing materials can give me pretty strong idea of what client is looking for. Custom illustrations, and taking and editing photo images, are normally part of the design.
advice to clients:
Not all print shops can print labels, so it's very important to find printer who will print your label before you start work on design. Specs from the printer – size, number of colors, minimum font size, can dramatically affect design of the label. Product labels are expensive to print and for many products label quality influences customer to buy or not to buy the product. So I recommend to spend little bit of extra and order hard copy proof for your product label before you print an entire order.
